Nesting is about the creative awakening my female ancestors and I went through during the last trimester of our pregnancy.  One ancestor craved dried coffee grounds as she prepared to give birth.  My grandmother hoed cotton on the day before my mother was born.  I created art exhibitions before I succumbed to the grace of daily obligation and birthed and raised a daughter.  We all tried to prepare for the arrival of a new baby in many ways.  Many of my female ancestors were sharecroppers in the southern rural United States of America.  This installation is a tribute to alternate voices in American history.
