Remnants

This installation was inspired by someone I used to be several generations ago. The silent, diligently working, southern sharecropper woman.

My grandmothers and mother and aunts labored on a cotton farm as sharecroppers. I labored on a tree farm and then earned an undergraduate degree and a masters

degree  while working various public jobs. Then in addition, most, but definitely not all of us raised children and did all that domestic work that women were expected to do.

Now I trade and invest in the US stock market, and have finally arrived at what I think is my professional peak. But my daughter will surpass me. The following photos posted on my blog titled “on becoming” these next months will represent environs my daughter had access to growing up. She started out becoming the person that I raised and now she is moving on into her own professional sphere . For that I am grateful. I hope that she gets to choose her own path of fulfillment. On becoming is a never ending story of resilience.
